Default Need to get somthing Str8

Ok Ive never played Guild Wars before but thats why Im asking this. I read through the FAQs but I didnt get what it ment, so here it goes.

Do I have to pay for Guild Wars? As in, do I ahve to pay monthly like some other games like WoW or Lineage. Or do I just buy the game, take it home, install and play with no worries of paying what so ever??

Will there be a monthly fee for Guild Wars?

No, there will not be a monthly subscription fee of any kind, anywhere in the world.

The only fee you will ever pay is for the game itself. There will be no monthly fees ever. The only future expenses are expansions which are purely optional, but recommened due to the content they will add to GW.

The following quotes are from the GW game FAQs:
Quote:
Will there be a monthly fee for Guild Wars?

No, there will not be a monthly subscription fee of any kind, anywhere in the world.
Quote:
Do I have to pay for online updates, such as patches?

There are no hidden fees. You will not have to pay for the streaming updates that will take place on a regular basis, nor for additional content that we will provide between the chapters of Guild Wars.
Quote:
Am I required to buy the expansion packs to continue to play Guild Wars?

No. Every purchase you make in the continuation of the Guild Wars saga will be your choice. If you purchase expansion packs you will gain access to new regions of the world, new skills and abilities, new items, new professions, and much more. However, if you choose to not purchase a chapter, you will still be able to play the chapters of Guild Wars that you own, and you will have common areas in which you will be able to play with and against your friends who have purchased the other chapter(s).
Quote:
Will I remain competitive if I do not buy the expansion packs? Will I be able to compete with and against others if I have only some of the Guild Wars chapters?

Yes. Purchasing the newer chapters of Guild Wars will not make you strictly more powerful. You will have access to many more strategic options, due to the expanding nature of the skills, abilities, items and professions that you enjoy with each chapter. It would be similar to building a deck in Magic: The Gathering???: The more cards you own, the more different playing decks that you can choose from to use in the game. When you buy the chapters of Guild Wars, you will acquire a larger collection of skills and abilities from which to build your skill set, but you will not gain more power. So if you purchase a chapter and your friend does not, you will still be able to play competitively against and with one another.
Edit: Duality beat me, oh well, this'll save you the trouble of reading the rest of the FAQs (might be ehlpful though for the rest of your questions.)

Yeah, I have never played but you don not have to pay monthly fees EVER! This is why this game is so freakin' awesome. You would think a game as great as Guild Wars would require to pay for. Thanks to my favorite people who started Battle.Net, we can play awesome games from the company, Blizzard. Like StarCraft, Diablo, and WarCraft games ALREADY! NOW WE HAVE AS FAR AS I CAN TELL THE BEST MMORPG ON THE PLANET AS OF NOW FO FREE! MUWAHAHAHA.. anyway... yeah, it is also AWESOME that you can still eb competetive and have just as much fun and NOT buy the expansoins. From what I can tell its just more story line and areas and monsters and equipment and stuff. Awesom awesome aweosme....

they refer to the new material as *CHAPTERS* to help get the people who are used to paying 29.99 for an *EXPANSION* to expect to pay 50 dollars for the next *CHAPTER* which the GW site says will have about the same amount of content as the original game and be comparably priced
